590 New students turn up for the 2008 School year in Yarra area.

Parents across the City Of Yarra wished their kids good luck as they turned up for this year’s prep classes.
Preliminary figures indicate approximately 590 children will begin prep in the Yarra Local Government Area.
Member for Richmond, Richard Wynne, said the students could look forward to years of quality education and support at local government schools.
“Every Prep starting their school life in Yarra this year will receive a free Welcome to School library bag to mark this important occasionâ€, Mr Wynne said.

Local sporting clubs dressed for success.

Grassroots sports clubs in the Richmond electorate will be dressed for success after the Member for Richmond, Richard Wynne, announced the successful applicants of the Sporting Uniform Grants Program today.
Mr Wynne said seven clubs would receive up to $1,000 to purchase essential sports uniforms and footwear.
“Sport in Richmond is as strong as ever, but many of our local clubs lack the resources and funding to properly equip their teams,†Mr Wynne said.
Keeping the Fringe Active: Fitzroy volunteer group receives $4,500 grant.

The Member for Richmond, Richard Wynne, today announced that the Brumby Government will provide a grant of $4,500 to Melbourne Fringe to help them recruit and train more volunteers.
Mr Wynne said Melbourne Fringe aimed to recruit and support new volunteers to staff the 2008 Melbourne Fringe Festival.
Mr Wynne said the grant to Melbourne Fringe was just one example of how the Brumby Government’s $3 million Victorian Volunteer Small Grants program is helping to increase volunteering.
“The Victorian Volunteer Small Grants program has already helped more than 850 local community organisations get new volunteers involved in their important work,†he said.
